As the name implies, a type of network that uses radio instead of wires to transmit data. A LAWN may connect to a LAN. It is typically used in an area where connections may have to frequently change locations and/or in a small area where a wired LAN would be difficult to implement.

LAWNs are usually easy to set up but are subject to security lapses if encryption and firewalls are not appropriately used (e.g., a LAWN will typically extend beyond the walls of a building and its signals can be picked up by anyone near-by).

IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth are examples of LAWNs.
