CMOS - Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor

(cee-moss)

The more accurate form is CMOS RAM but common use has shortened it to just CMOS. This is a specially-made chip that stores the configuration of a personal computer. CMOS construction allows the chip to store this information for long periods using very little battery power. (CMOS RAM is used for other things, but it is most closely associated with configuration storage.)
