Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser
(vixel)
A type of fiber optic laser that ejects photons from the surface of the semiconductor wafer instead of the edges as in larger semiconductor lasers. The design of a VCSEL allows them to be easily manufactured and packaged.
