Special Interest Group
(sig)
Any group of people who gather to discuss a particular topic. Computer user groups may have breakout groups (SIGs) to cover special topics of interest to small groups.
In a more specific sense, a SIG is also a technical area sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery, e.g., SIGGRAPH is the Special Interest Group for Computer Graphics).
