Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol
(P-P-P-T-P)
An enhanced PPP protocol where data packets are encapsulated inside other packets. This is most often used to transmit data in one protocol across a network that uses a different protocol.
[You can see an example here of how acronyms take on a meaning of their own. PPP originally included the word "protocol" but came to mean point-to-point by itself here since there is a missing "P" in the expansion of this acronym.]
