An API that extends the BIOS by adding special functions for LANs. PC-based LANs generally use NetBIOS although individual LAN vendors may have extensions to it. NetBIOS uses the Server Message Block (SMB) message format. Not everyone is pleased with the NetBIOS API. You can sometimes find it called NetBOLLIX (bollix = bungle).
