Network News Transfer Protocol

A protocol used for transfer of news messages over the Internet. NNTP is typically used between a server and news reader client. NNTP is an ASCII protocol. If you don't have a news client you can telnet to the server and read mail...
telnet [name of news server] 119
...then type HELP for a list of commands. The 119 is the typical port that news uses.
