Matrix Math Extensions (Multimedia Extensions)

First, the expansion. While MMX is generally known as Multimedia Extensions, Intel has made it clear it's really a brand name and should be Matrix Math Extensions.
MMX is basically a set of 57 instructions designed to speed calculations typically used by multimedia applications. Before being added to the CPU these functions were on separate chips or cards slowing their processing time. Software must be programmed specifically to access MMX instructions.
