Two definitions with the same acronym expansion; one historical, one business:

(1) When ARPANET (the historic beginning of today's Internet) was started it was divided into two networks: MILNET and ARPANET. The ARPANET portion was designed to support advanced research needs and MILNET was designed to serve the needs of the military.
