Master Boot Record
(M-B-R)
A small program stored at the start of a hard disk. It reads the partition table and transfers the boot process to the correct boot partition. The MBR is one area attacked by boot sector computer viruses since the MBR program must execute first during the boot sequence, giving the virus the opportunity to control the computer.
