Log On/Off
The process by which you gain access to a computer, peripheral, or network. Typically, some form of user name and password is required for a successful log-on. Most systems will allow you to make only a certain number of mistakes before you are locked out of the system for some period of time. Many will also give you the option of recovering your password via E-mail should you forget it.
When logging off, it's usually best to use whatever functions are available to you to do so rather than simply terminating the session or turning the power off. This lets the device you logged into know that the session has ended and it can then gracefully terminate the connection.
