Job Control Language
(J-C-L)
Often used in larger computer systems, JCL is any control language that controls the execution of applications. The syntax is usually quite strict; you dare not add even an extra space where it is not expected. (I remember coding JCL instructions into cards that were inserted just before my job card decks in the "good old days."
