Impact Printer
Like the old typewriter, an impact printer uses some representation of the character to be printed to press up against an inked ribbon and transfer that image to the paper behind the ribbon. Not used much any longer, impact printers generally produced excellent results and could print onto multiple-copy forms. On the down side, the ribbon had to be replaced fairly often and the printers were quite noisy.
