Independent Computing Architecture
(I-C-A)
A Citrix standard that allows applications to run on servers while clients see and interact with the application as if it were running on the client computer. By sending only screen updates, keystrokes, mouse clicks, etc. over the network bandwidth is greatly reduced. Microsoft has developed a Windows Terminal Server (previously called Hydra) in competition, but ICA will run on NT using Citrix's MetaFrame. Thin clients (as these products are generally named) were developed to counter the NetPC hardware concept. (ICA® Citrix)
