Floating-point Operations per Second
(flops)
A speed measure showing how fast a system can handle operations on floating point numbers. Some computer makers make a big deal about how fast their systems are based on FLOPS. Don't be fooled; it's just one measure of overall system performance and not always a particularly good one.
