Frequency Division Multiplexing
(F-D-M)
Multiplexing technique where different data streams are placed on different frequencies. Each carrier frequency and associated data stream are then combined to be broadcast. The transmission media can be radio frequency or optical. The data streams are separated into their different frequencies at the receiver and handled as necessary. Television cable service often used FDM as but one example.
