DOS Protected Mode Interface
(D-P-M-I)
A technique developed by Microsoft (and others) to extend the ability of MS-DOS to access more memory. DPMI is under the control of the driver HIMEM.SYS under Windows. An alternative, Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) running under MS-DOS, was not accepted.
