Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(D-H-C-P)
A protocol used to assign dynamic IP addresses to devices. Using DHCP a pool of IP addresses can be used to connect many more devices to the network as these devices are needed. Some implementations can even change IP addresses during a session if required. It's likely your ISP uses DHCP to connect you to the Internet when you dial in to them.
