Constant Angular Velocity
(C-A-V)
A data access technique that uses disks rotating at a constant speed no matter where on the disk the data is located. CAV is often used with hard drives and is easier to implement than constant linear velocity (CLV). Designers who use CAV have to take into account the fact that read/write speed varies from track to track with the outer tracks being the fastest.
