Broadband-Integrated Services Digital Network
(B-I-S-D-N)
A developing International Telecommunications Union recommendation for a network which offers more bandwidth than the existing (narrow band) Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). This will likely be done by breaking down channel capacity into small packets referred to as cells, each of which could be used independently to carry data relating to a particular connection. This is essentially the merging of a broadband service and Asynchronous Transmission Mode (ATM) service.
