Automatic Call Distributor
(A-C-D)
Switching hardware that distributes incoming calls to modems or individuals as they become available. ACD systems are often used by companies needing to answer lots of calls but not having specific people to answer specific calls (e.g., a charity taking donations during a telethon). Modifications to an ACD might ask the user to press buttons on a phone to help direct calls to more specific locations within an answering phone bank.
